Ternary switchable phase transition of CaCO3 by shock waves

نویسندگان

چکیده

In the present article, we disclose shock wave induced crystallographic switchable phase transition of calcium carbonate nano particles (CaCO3 NPs). The observed profiles powder X-ray diffraction reveal that CaCO3 NPs undergoes transitions in sequential order from Calcite-I to Calcite-II and Calcite-III at 50 100 shocks, respectively. Interestingly, reversible have been 150 200 shocked conditions, Rotational order-disorder oxy-anions (CO3) displacement cation (Ca) take place because impact waves thereby ternary results paving way for design new multifunctional materials.

Microscopic view of structural phase transitions induced by shock waves.

Multimillion-atom molecular-dynamics simulations are used to investigate the shock-induced phase transformation of solid iron. Above a critical shock strength, many small close-packed grains nucleate in the shock-compressed body-centered cubic crystal growing on a picosecond time scale to form larger, energetically favored grains. A split two-wave shock structure is observed immediately above t...

Feeding and dissipative waves in fracture and phase transition II. Phase-transition waves

Discrete and homogeneous models of a structured material are considered to resolve di0culties in the analysis of dynamic phase transition. The discrete model is a chain consisting of particles connected by massless bonds, while the continuous model is represented by a partial di3erential equation with higher than the second order of coordinate derivatives. The macrolevel constitutive law is rep...

SHOCK TEMPERATURES IN CALCITE (CaCO3): IMPLICATION FOR SHOCK INDUCED DECOMPOSITION

The temperatures induced in crystalline calcite upon planar shock compression (95-160 GPa) are reported from two-stage light gas-gun experiments. The temperatures are obtained fitting 6channel optical pyrometer radiances in the 450 to 900 nm range, to a Planck radiation law temperature varied from 3300 to 5400 K. Calculations demonstrate that the temperatures are some 400 to 1350 K lower than i...

Solitary shock waves and adiabatic phase transition in lipid interfaces and nerves.

This study shows that the stability of solitary waves excited in a lipid monolayer near a phase transition requires positive curvature of the adiabats, a known necessary condition in shock compression science. It is further shown that the condition results in a threshold for excitation, saturation of the wave's amplitude, and the splitting of the wave at the phase boundaries. Splitting in parti...
